Last month, Amerit kicked off its 1st Annual Heavy Duty ProTech Challenge.

An internal competition, Amerit’s top heavy duty technicians, as nominated by their managers, competed for a chance to represent Amerit on a national level at the TMC SuperTech Competition.

Considerations of the nominees were based on skillset, knowledge and experience maintaining heavy duty vehicles, and ASE credentialsNominees included 17 of Amerit’s top heavy duty technicians from throughout the country.

In the first of three rounds, each nominee was tested on their heavy duty and ASE knowledge with a rigorous 60-question exam (50 percent of their total score). The top candidates were then scored for each current ASE certification they’ve obtained (10 percent of total score). The overall top candidates went forward to the second round.

In round two, nominees were interviewed by the ProTech Challenge Committee, a group comprised of Amerit Senior Fleet Managers, Angelo Cinquegrana, Kurt Ford and Bill Gates.

The top five candidates from round two were considered to move forward: Derrick Crockford, Associated Equipment Technician; David Guzman, MSC Technician; Todd Hilton, Technician; Claude Martinez, Associated Equipment Technician; and Juan Salazar, Technician.

In the final round, the overall top three participants were interviewed by Kevin Clark, Executive Vice President of Field Operations at Amerit. As a result, the two overall highest scoring finalists, Crockford and Salazar, will be representing Amerit at the TMC SuperTech Competition September 16 -19, 2017.

“It is a great honor to be selected as one of the top technicians who will represent Amerit during the 2017 SuperTech Challenge. This challenge has been a great opportunity for me to use my knowledge, skills and abilities in direct competition with fellow employees for a chance at being one of the top technicians in the country. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to meet other top professional technicians from across the country who all share the same passion in this industry.” – Derrick Crockford
